Montecassino is a place of primary importance for Western spirituality, culture and art. Unfortunately, almost all of its architectural, sculptural and pictorial heritage has been destroyed due to the repeated devastation it has suffered over the centuries. The most vivid memory of Cassinese medieval art is entrusted to a huge number of decorated and illustrated manuscripts that have survived and are preserved in the monastery.
